Important information from the Choice Advice Service re school allocation day

12th March 2009

Allocation Day

On the 2nd of March children who are due to start Primary or Secondary School in September will be informed of what school there child has a place at.

The Choice Advice Service is here to offer impartial advice and support at what some parents may find a confusing and upsetting time.

If your child has not got a place at their preferred school then the service will be able to offer advice on what you can do next. All parents have the right to appeal for a place at the schools which they applied for.

We can offer support in filling in appeal forms, and explain the appeals process, over the phone or at your home. We can provide an Independent Parent Advisers (IPA) to support  and advocate for you at appeals, when available.

Independent Parent Advisers are trained volunteers who can attend the appeal with you. They can be their as a supportive friend or present the appeal on your behalf. The IPA would listen to a parents worries and concerns and their reasons for appealing. They would make notes of those reason for the appeal.

If you would like help please contact The Choice Advice Service on 0113 395 0596.

The Advisory Centre for Education (ACE) also offer advice to parents. You can contact ACE on their free advice line on 0808 8000 327 or text ASKACE for free on 68088.
